Spirit of Truth

When things happen that are so hard to explain, we become fascinated and amazed. Recently in shows like Asia’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent we have seen a number of magicians. These are very interesting acts, but the question is, are they tricks or are there spirits behind these acts?

When we hear of a statue of Mama Mary that is dancing, or when we hear of a so-called visionary going into trance and giving out messages, or when we go to a famous faith healer who does esoteric practices when he heals, the question then becomes: “What kind of spirits are behind these?”

In the Gospel, we are often reminded that there is a world that is not seen. We are also reminded that there is good and evil, and that amidst us is the Spirit of Truth.

  1. Not all of the seemingly religious phenomenons are from God. Remember that the devil is the father of lies. That is why it takes the Church a long time to study all these phenomena. Amidst all the beautiful messages and even the confirmed healings, the Church looks for details whether this is consistent to the will and ways of the Lord. To start with, the Lord will never reveal himself to a person in trance.
  2. What are the fruits of these religious phenomena? Jesus said in Matthew, “You will know them by their fruits.” Have the followers become more loving? Have they become humble? Do they serve? Or have they become more arrogant and self-centered. If one is prayerful and in a state of grace, the Holy Spirit will guide the person versus the deceptions of the devil.
  3. Follow the Word of God. The Bible tells us have nothing to do with the occult. Yes, there is a spiritual realm out there that claims to give us peace of mind, powers, knowledge, and mystical experiences. Notice for those who dwell into this reality, they will little by little shy away from the Church. They have no need for God because as satan has tempted Eve, “You will be like god.”

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
