Come Follow Me

As human beings, we follow and idolize people we are interested in. There is something in them or in their lives that attract us, or there also could be something in them that we want or are envious of. For example, on Twitter, some of the most followed people include Barrack Obama with 133M followers, then Elon Musk, Justin Bieber, and Katy Perry for nos. 2 to 4. Numbers 5 to 7 are Rihanna, Christiano Ronaldo, and Taylor Swift, the latter of which has 92.1 million.

Over 2000 years ago, Jesus invited his disciples, “Follow me.” This is still the very same invitation to each and every one of us – “Follow Me.”

In following Jesus though, there is no fame, there are no riches, and there is no earthly power.

Three things we follow Jesus with:

  1. We follow Jesus because he has a calling for each and every one of us. We are in this world because God has a calling for each and every one of us. We have a purpose and we have a mission on earth. He too has blessed us with time, talent, and treasure to be faithful to that mission.
  2. We follow Jesus to the Cross. Jesus on earth was always saying, “Not my will but the will of my father.” That meant also suffering and death on the cross. That is why in life, let us embrace our pains, sorrows, heartaches, fears, and imperfections. This is our way of following Jesus to the Cross.
  3. We Follow Jesus to Eternal Life. Jesus, in a teaching, said that at the end the sheep will be separated from the goats. The sheep are the blessed because they were a blessing to others. The goats are the accursed because they did not care for their neighbor.

Following Jesus is simple but not easy. Love until it hurts and love more.
