Wrong Turns in Life

For drivers like me, thanks to technology, we have been relying on an app that is very much appreciated: WAZE. Just key in your destination and it will tell you how to get there. Yes, if you get lost, it even helps you get back on the right track.

We all know that life itself is a journey. Hence, we have a destination: Heaven. How to get there? Each of us has a calling, a mission, and a vocation. We are required to be faithful to the calling. Certainly, we do get lost every now and then.

How do we avoid getting lost?

  1. Choosing the right company. There is a saying, “Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.” Sooner or later, the values and lifestyles of our friends sync together in our lives. Hence, how important it is to choose God-fearing and upright friends.
  2. Faithfulness to God’s Plan. God has a plan for us. It is said  in the Letter of Paul to the Philippians, “For I know the plans that I have for you.” When we do it our way, we make the wrong decisions. When we are not faithful to the call of God for us, we do not make full use of all the blessings of God. Hence, we indeed get lost.
  3. Avoid Sin and Vice. These days we are made to open our eyes to the menace of not only drugs but of the many vices. When we sin and enter a life of vice, we go further from God.

That is why we always pray for guidance and signs for us to get us back on the right track. The life of Jonah is a perfect example of one who got lost but with God’s mysterious ways brought him back. That is why we ask for the gift of faith to open our hearts to God especially when we get lost. As someone once said, “The Lord whispers to us when times are good. He shouts at us when times are bad.” Either way, signs are all around.
