There was this article entitled, “Who Founded Your Church?”
- Roman Catholic Church: 33AD, by Jesus Christ
- Lutheran Church: 1517, Martin Luther
- Anglican Church: 1534, King Henry VIII
- Mormonism: 1830, Joseph Smith
- Jehovah’s Witnesses: 1874, Charles Taze Russell
In the Gospel, we hear of Jesus telling Peter, “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”.
Yet, we know that the Church is undergoing so many challenges, some of which include:
- Sexual Scandals. While some are true, some are not. Either way, they damage and hurt the people of God.
- Decreasing Number of Priests. In Manila alone in the next ten years, there will be more retirements than ordinations. Further, the average age of the priests of Manila is about 54 years old.
- Suffering of Marriage and Family – The most basic social unit in the world.
- Nowadays, young people are together but not getting married
- Many marriages are dysfunctional which also affect the children
- People of same sex are insisting on marriage rather than union
- Many people do not want to have children because they are expensive, add responsibility and limit freedom
- Removing God in Society. Jesus said that one cannot serve two masters; you will love one and despise the other. Nowadays, many people would rather serve money than God. Hence we should not be surprised if there is so much anxiety, fear, and worry.
While we know that God will never abandon His Church; we have to do our share:
- First, we continue to support and pray for our Catholic Church
- Second, we continue to stand up for Jesus by doing what is right
- Third, we go to all the ends of the earth to spread the Good News
