Among siblings, one of the favorite discussions is who is the favorite of daddy and mommy? Even in the office, who is the favorite of the boss? In the Parish, people observe the priest and also ask who is father’s favorite?
In the Gospel, Peter compared himself to John. We know that if not checked, these types of comparisons can lead to envy, insecurity, and loneliness.
Three things that we should remember:
- Never compare yourself to others because one’s life is different from another’s. We may be siblings, we may be officemates, we may be parishioners but our lives are totally different. Our calling is totally different and our blessings are totally different.
- Never compare yourself to others because you will be counting other people’s blessings and forget to be grateful for your very own. It is sad if we overlook our own giftedness.
- Never compare yourself to others because our eyes should be fixed on the Shepherd. We hear His voice and follow Him.
In each Mass, we pray that with our own mission and with what has God blessed us, we may become the best person.
