Haters

Do you sometimes get this feeling that there are people watching your every move, trying to find fault, and then broadcasting it to other people? In other words, there are people who would just want to pull you down.

Even Jesus was not exempted. His every move was being watched; his every word was being monitored; they constantly tried to find fault in him. They were not only constantly trying to put him down, they even wanted to kill him.

Three things to remember when being confronted by haters:

  1. There are people who just want to hate. There are people who are just full of hate. I once saw a video of a special child who sang very well. What an inspiration. But guess what? There were still thousands who disliked the video. Haters indeed will always hate.
  2. Hold on to your principles. Even when people question you; Even if people put you down; Even when people malign you, as long as it is clear that in your heart this is the most Christian thing that can be done, hold your head up high. Mother Teresa even said this, “If you do good, people will doubt you. Do good anyway.”
  3. Pray for those who persecute you. In all of these, God has a plan. Trust God’s love and justice. Never wish haters ill, misfortune or even death. It is not God who will answer these prayers, it is the devil. And we do not want to have anything to do with the devil.

At the end of our lives, people will only remember us by the goodness we have shown and God will judge us on how we have been a blessing to others. In fact, when one is encountering haters, it only means he or she is doing something that is good. As they say in Tagalog, “Ang bungang hinog, binabato.”
