Credibility

I am sure that many of us have watched the investigations on the flood control projects. As we are watching, how many of us have so many questions in our minds about the credibility.

For the once being interrogated, we ask:

  • Are they telling the truth?
  • What is there agenda?
  • Whose camp are they part of ?

On the one interrogating, we ask:

  • Is he really clean?
  • What about his or her former cases before?
  • Does he receive money?

One of the teachings of the Gospel is that we Catholics should have credibility: “Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?”

How then, do we build our Credibility? Three ways:

  • First, Practice what you preach. Our life and our actions must align with our words. Honesty has a lot to do with this. Also, integrity is very important – we do what is right even when no one is around. On the other hand, hypocrisy is the fastest way to lose credibility.
  • Second, be humble and accept mistakes. Of course, none of us is perfect. We all commit mistakes and have sinned. Yes, there should be the conscious effort to become a better person. To lessen the sin and the mistakes we have been doing.
  • Third, be reminded the God sees everything. May this always help us to be a true person.

In this Mass, we continue to thank God for people who have credibility. They both guide us and inspire us. Second, may we continue to discern, “wolf in sheep’s clothing” or as Jesus described the Pharisees, “Listen to what they are saying but do not follow what they are doing.” Lastly, we pray that we too become credible Catholics.
