Pearl of Great Price

One time I was having a animated conversation with a friend. We were reminiscing of the misadventures of the past yet the laughter was just as intense.  After some time, a stranger approached us and said. “I will give a million pesos if only I could laugh like that.”

My dear friends, all of us are looking for happiness and all of us will do everything and anything to find happiness sometimes even the wrong way or with the wrong people.

True happiness is when we find the pearl of great price. This means three things:

  • Pearl is formed only because it goes through most difficult situations. In other words, the happiest people are not exempted from the most difficult situations of life.
  • It is buried treasure. In other words not obviously seen by the naked eyes. With this we remember the saying, the many things that count in life are those that cannot be counted. The many things that can be counted are those that do not count. True happiness is not found in the material things. It is found in the many relationships we have.
  • Pearl goes and sell all that it has. Life has thought us to find happiness once need to accumulate. As the saying goes, “He who dies with the most toys wins.” But where is the victory when we are just going to leave everything behind? On the other hand, we can only find happiness when we are detached from material things because when we let go, something more precious comes along.

As we journey through life in pursuit of happiness, may we find God – the pearl of great price. When we find God we realize that he along suffices.
