After water, it is said that the next thing that will be compromised is electricity. Climate change is indeed here. But then again, we should realize that it is not only climate that has changed; our entire world has changed a lot. For those who are at least fifty years old, one can only shake his or her head with disbelief when human life has become so cheap, while we value animal rights; morals are now based on what is easy and convenient; money is more important than people; Sin is called alternative lifestyle and God is cursed. Indeed, there is so much darkness in the world. This is very frightening for those who are parents and godparents. What kind of world will my child or grandchild will grow up in?
Jesus in the Gospel tells us that he is “The Light of the world.” And Jesus said that we are “Light of the world.” Hence, three things we can do:
- Pray. The greatest battle is going on in the spiritual realm. It is of my personal opinion that the devil knows his days are numbered and therefore causes so much collateral damage. He has gone high gear in destroying the Church composed of the ordained priesthood (bishops, priests, and deacons), and the common priesthood (all the baptized).
- Be Involved. We are human beings and we cannot exist without morality and values. In this world, it cannot be only about material things and money. Hence, we have to get involved. Remember the words of Christ, “Whatever you do to the least of your brethren.”
- Full Life. At the end of this life, we are going to come face to face with the Lord. In the parable of the talent, we are going to give an accounting on how much we have bore fruit. Definitely, we can only do that when we are faithful to the mission that God has given us.
As we go through life, we remember that any follower of Christ will be persecuted especially these times when it seems so fashionable to curse God, curse the Church, curse the ordained ministers and curse the faithful. But even with the high cost, it is still better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.
