In the world that we live in, faith is very important. Remember not only look at life physically, economically or politically but also look at life spiritually. Yes, in this world that we live in, there is the seen and the unseen.
Our being in this Mass means that we are gifted with gift of faith. Yet, this is a faith that is not easy. Why?
- First, we are told to do what is right, what is good and fight for the truth. Yet, this is what Jesus did and he was nailed on the cross? So hard to accept that after night comes day. After the good Fridays of life comes the easter Sunday.
- Second, we are told that at the last supper, Jesus told his disciples that the bread is His body and the wine is His blood. So hard to accept that the bread we consume contains the real presence of Christ, yet there have been so many Eucharistic Miracles as proof.
- Third, we are told that there is heaven and there hell. Why would an all loving God desire that his most important creation be damned? So hard to accept… yet, what do we do to people who do not desire to be with God. God respects our decision and our free will.
Yesterday we celebrated Trinity Sunday. In the ten commandments, we are told that there is only one God. Yet Jesus in the Gospel tells us God so loved the world that He gave his only Son. Further, Jesus said, “Go and baptize in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.” Hence as we celebrate Trinity Sunday: Three persons in one God.
Hence, with three persons in one God, three things we remember:
- Love. Indeed God is love and that love is meant to be shared. Since God existed from the very start before creation, love was already shared since the beginning among the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
- Revelation. It is the desire that God reveals himself to us. In the Old testament, it was God the Father, he gave us the ten commandments; In the New Testament, it was Jesus the Son, he taught us that most important of all commandments – love of God as you love yourself. and last week we celebrated Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Hence, God continues to reveal himself.
- Mystery. The trinity reminds us that God and mystery will always be part of life. Why did Jesus have to die on the cross? How can the bread become the body of Christ? Why is there good and evil. In other words in the life that we live in, we must always trust God.
In this Mass, we remember in the journey in life, we are never alone. May we see God even in the most difficult times of our lives because he continues to reveal himself; may we see that hand of God even when life does not makes sense because God who is love has a plan for us; and may we trust God because life is a mystery meant to be lived. A blessed Trinity Sunday to all.
