In a eulogy that I witnessed, a son was giving tribute to his father. He said when he was growing up, they would wonder why they were not as rich as the office mates of his father. His father would always say three things:
- First, God sees everything
- Second, it is better to eat simple food as a result of hard work
- Third, money that is stolen will never be a blessing
In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us: “What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life.”
Three things about money:
- It is a very good servant but a terrible master. Think about all the families and relationships that have been broken because of fighting over money.
- God will always provide. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added upon you.
- Contentment and Gratitude. Whether rich or simple, always practice contentment and gratitude. Very hard when greed and envy sink into our lives.
That is why never ever trust people who grow rich in dishonest ways:
- First, it will never bring them happiness
- Second, how can you explain to God that you had money that was supposed to be other people’s money
- Third, it will all be left behind and the question is what happens now to the soul?
