Seeing God’s Hand

How many times have I been asked this question, “Why does God allow evil in this world?” That indeed is a very valid question. Just look at the current state of the world.

  1. First, the right is made wrong and the wrong is made right
  2. Second, the evildoers are very bold. Why stand up for what is right, what is true, and what is good and be persecuted?
  3. Third, my truth is as good as your truth. We are putting aside objective truth, natural law, and even the Word of God.

My typical response which I learned from spiritual writers is that, “If you take away God, some other spirit takes over.” Hence, all the evil in the world today. That is why it is very important to continuously see God’s hand in everyday life.

This was the mistake of the people in the town of Jesus. They did not see the hand of God in their everyday lives. Yes, Jesus spoke with authority, yes, Jesus did miracles and healing, yet they did not see God’s hand in everything.

That is why in our own everyday lives, three things we can do to see God’s hand:

  1. Prayer. God is just a prayer away. His time, his wisdom and his plan is different yet it is always what is best. With God everything happens for a reason and a purpose.
  2. Mission. We are in this world because God has a mission for us. If we are faithful to this mission, we make this world a better place to live in.
  3. Relationships. The most important of all commandments is love of God and love of neighbor as we love ourselves.

In this Mass, we remember the saying, “Those who put everything in God’s hand eventually see God’s hand in everything. “
