In our everyday lives, we are barraged with so many things to do. Just to get it right on what is the most important and what can be set aside, a management tool was made to help us decide. The first window is called DO FIRST – this is both important and urgent. The second window is called SCHEDULE – this is not urgent but important. The third window is DELEGATE – this is not important but urgent. The last window is DON’T DO – this is not urgent and not important.
It is also true for our spiritual life. Which is most important and urgent? For the Jews, they had 613 laws. Naturally, the question is, which is most important and urgent? The response of Christ – Love of God and love of neighbor as you love yourself.
Three ways we can show our love for God and neighbor:
- Show God’s love by praying. The prayer of a child, the prayer of a widow, the prayer of the oppressed, the prayer of a parent, and the prayer of a righteous person are all very powerful. The prayer of the Church is very powerful. We continue to pray for others.
- Show God’s love by giving. Giving is the highest form of living. As God is a giving God, we too, his sons and daughters, are challenged to be givers.
- Show God’s love by giving hope. The greatest source of hope is eternal life. Yet the key to eternal life is being a blessing to others. When we bless others, we make this world a better place to live in.
In talking about the love of God and neighbor, we remember the words of St. Mother Teresa:
“We do not have to do great things. We just have to put love in all the things we do.”
That is not only a great offering to God but that would be a great blessing to the people around us.
