What Are You Looking For?

There is a saying, “The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for”. Hence we are always looking for something in life – it could be love, it could be money, it could be peace of mind, it could be approval, it could be happiness, it could be meaning. The list can go on and on.

“What are you looking for,” were the words of Christ to the two disciples of John. Like the two disciples, we are all looking for God because everything else in this world is passing and fleeting. Three ways we do this:

  1. Prayer. God is just a prayer away. Yes, he does answer all our prayers. “Yes”, if it is meant to be, “No” if it is not meant, and “Not yet” because he has a better time. He also answers our prayers in a way we will understand. How many times do things happen to us and we just look to the heavens and say in our minds, “That was you, Lord.” He also answers our prayers through peace of mind when we are worried, stirring our hearts when God wants us to do something, and giving us strength in adversity.
  2. Mission. God placed us here on earth because He has a mission. The time, talent, and treasure we have is for the mission. We remember the saying, “Two of the happiest days in a person’s life: birth and finding the mission in life.” We discover God’s providence when we are faithful to the mission God has given us.
  3. Love. We people look at life and look at situations based on two things: good fortune and bad fortune. But with God, everything happens for a reason and a purpose. Even the crisis situations of life have a silver lining. If we are sensitive enough, these things happen to send us back on the right track in life. Consider even, the most difficult times of our lives as God’s mysterious yet perfect and most loving way.
