Open Heart

Of all the organs in the body, it is the heart that is most important. It is the heart that determines whether the body has life or not. In the spiritual life, the heart is equally important. There are very many bible passages when it comes to the heart.

  • Matthew 12:34
 – You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
  • Proverbs 27:19
 – As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.
  • Luke 21:34
 – Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life.
  • Colossians 3:15
 – And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
  • John 14:1
 – Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

As we reflect on the life of the Child Jesus, one of His qualities is that He had an open heart. It is because Jesus actually had an “Open Heart.” Five qualities of proof:

  • Humility. Thinking of others first over self
  • Gratitude. We came into the world with nothing and we are leaving this world with nothing
  • Compassion. Feeling the pain of others. Sensitive about what others are going through
  • Forgiveness. Forgiving the people who hurt us even if they continue to hurt us or do not ask for forgiveness.
  • Trust in God. God has a plan in everything, hence trust him.

How was Jesus able to do his ministry, which was very tiring and taxing? People were always searching for him, people were seeking him to be healed, people who were possessed by spirits, sought him for the spirits to be cast out.

It was not easy, yet he touched so many people’s lives. It was tiring, yet the strength comes from the heart. And it was always challenging on what, yet God’s guidance was always there.

Create in me a clean heart, create in me an open heart.
