All Things Come to Pass

Once upon a time in New York there existed the World Trade Center. The Twin Towers of 110 floors were completed in 1973. In 2001, it was brought down by terrorists when two planes crashed on both towers. It was a strange feeling that the symbol of American capitalism was brought down just like that.

2000 years ago, it also must have been a strange feeling for the Jews to see the temple, a symbol of both Jewish civilization and the house of God, destroyed by the Romans as prophesied by Jesus Christ.

One of the often-emphasized reflections of the Gospel is that everything here on earth comes to an end. Hence, what is important is our relationship with Christ. Three things in that regard:

  • First, Mission. The words of Christ, “Come Follow Me.” When we are faithful to the Mission that God has given up, we become good stewards of the time, talent, and treasure that God has lent us. When we are faithful to the mission, we can serve others.
  • Second, Cross. The words of Christ, “Pick up your cross and follow me”. It is a human tendency that we like a life free of pain and suffering but crosses in life have a reason. May we carry our crosses in life with strength and purpose.
  • Third, Salt of the Earth, Light of the World. Although we are in the world, we are not in the world. While our sight is in life eternal, it is our Christian duty to make a difference in this life, even at the cost of persecution.

There is a saying, that the many things in life that can be counted are the ones that count. All material things will soon come to pass, but not the Mission, Cross, and Sacrifices.
