The Resurrection

The Resurrection is the most important celebration of the Church. Why? If Jesus did not rise, we would not be here. The original testimony that Christ had truly risen was the stone removed from the tomb (someone powerful had done it), the empty tomb (no body of Christ), and the folded cloth (which meant the master was returning).

A modern testimony that Christ has truly risen is that the only Church Christ founded through Peter is now 21 centuries old with 1.3 Billion members. That includes you and me. In the past 21 centuries, the Church has gone through a lot of ups and downs. There were moments of glory and moments of shame; it has brought joy and it has brought pain; there were people who were a blessing and there were people who wanted to bring it down. Yet, the words of Christ are so true, “Not even the gates of the netherworld will prevail against it.”

On a more personal note, three reasons why the resurrection is relevant in our lives, especially in the world that we live in now:

  1. We are only passing by in this world. Jesus rising from the death reminds us that there is eternal life. Hence, we always pray that may we know what is important and what is fleeting, what is essential and what is passing. After all, we came into this world with nothing and we are leaving this world with nothing. The only treasures we have in heaven are the goodness and kindness we have shown other people.
  1. We are guided by the word of God. When Jesus rose from death, it validated all what was said in the scriptures. Hence, the power of the Word of God. God is the author of life and his Word is the instructions of life. The Word of God guides, warns, strengthens, admonishes, gives hope, inspires, and makes us reflect.
  2. Good will always prevail. When Jesus was nailed on the cross, his enemies thought they won. But their victory was turned into defeat after three days when Jesus rose from the dead. These days are different days. There is so much evil in the world, people are trying to live without God, hence all the confusion. Always be hopeful, good will always prevail.

The story of the resurrection is a story of hope. When Adam and Eve sinned, God promised a messiah to be born of a virgin. When Jesus died on the cross, it did not end there. He rose after three days, and the hope continues.

Whatever we are going through in life, always be hopeful by focusing on what is important and essential in life, always be hopeful with the Word of the Lord, and always be hopeful, good will always prevail.
