One day I was watching a video with a student who was defending transgenders. While inclusion is very important, while equality is very important, while discrimination is something we should fight for, we should also be very careful of the dangers of allowing and accepting philosophy and ideas that are not the truth. Then when you tell them that even if you think you are a woman but you are born a boy, they will say you are discriminatory, old fashioned, etc., among others. Indeed these are different times. These are dark times. The Gospel tells us everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light.
Hence, one of the challenges of the Gospel is to be the light, and three things we can do about that:
- Share our faith. This is the command of Christ, in fact. Go to all the ends of the earth and spread the good news. Although the Church is the most persecuted institution nowadays, it is only because people do not want to hear the truth. However, the truth will set us free. Continue to share our faith.
- Continue to do what is right. Why do the right thing? Just look at the evildoers, they are bold, they are getting away with everything, and they have it all. Yes, continue to do the right thing. We remember the words of Christ, “What profit does it gain a person to have the whole world but lose his soul.”
- Retain faithfulness to the mission. All of us are here on earth because God has a mission for us. If we are faithful to this mission, we find meaning in life, we make the right decisions and life choices, and we bless other people. In the process, we make this world a better place to live in.
May we always remember that after the Good Fridays of life comes the Easter Sundays. Hence we remain hopeful remembering the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: “It is better to light just one candle than to curse the darkness”.
