Typically during wakes, especially of children who passed away, the loved ones and family have so many questions.
- Why did God take away our loved ones?
- Why did God give our loved one only to take him away so soon?
- Why him and not me?
- During a wake of a 13-year-old boy who passed away so suddenly and unexpectedly, the grief-stricken grandfather had only one question: Will I ever see my grandson again?
My dear friends, tomorrow’s Feast of the Assumption is very important because we are reminded that there is eternal life. Never lose hope in the goodbyes of life; the separation is only temporary. The challenge now is to live our life like Mary, as eternal life starts now.
Three things we should always do as seen in the life of Mary.
- She kept all these things in her heart: There were many things that happened in the life of Mary that she did not understand. Instead of complaining, she kept all these things in her heart. In other words, she reflected and prayed.
- She was faithful to her Mission. She had a very important Mission, to be the mother of God. Although she was frightened, she was still able to say yes to Angel Gabriel because she trusted God. Also, throughout her life, she was certainly faithful to the Mission God had given her.
- She served. Her life was dedicated to bringing people to her Son. It was not about her, it was about her son. Her words in Cana summarize it all – “Do whatever He tells you”.
That is why we look at Mary as our model when it comes to our Christian life.
- We all have our mission and calling from God; let us be faithful.
- Life may never be fair but all things happen for a reason and purpose and God is just a prayer away.
- Lastly, the basis for eternal life is “Whatever you do to the least of your brethren, you do unto me.” We can do this by serving others. Just as Jesus served others, just as Mary served others.
