Sabbath

To put order in any organization and institution, laws, rules, and regulations are very important. Otherwise, if everyone does what he or she wants, it is going to be chaotic. Somewhere down the road though, we forget why these laws, regulations, and rules were implemented and we just follow them blindly.

In the Gospel, the Jews observed the Sabbath day by not working. Even healing is defined by the Jews as a type of work. Hence, when Jesus healed during the Sabbath, the Pharisees were not happy about that.

Three reasons why Jesus healed during the Sabbath:

  1. Sabbath was made for man and not ‘Man was made for Sabbath‘. In other words, Sabbath was made to help people and not burden them. Hence when it comes to healing, why wait another day of sickness when the healing can already be done.
  2. Sabbath was made to do good and not evil. Hence if anyone opposes healing on the Sabbath, one might ask, “Why is he against doing good?”
  3. Jesus is exempted from following Sabbath because he is God. When Jesus heals on a Sabbath it is a reminder that God cares.

We are reminded never to lose HOPE, especially as we pray for the healing of our loved ones who are sick. God’s healing, His time is perfect, and yes, He cares!
