Greatness

There is an article that states that all of us have desires. These desires are what lead us to greatness and being the greatest. The seven desires are:

  • Desire for leadership and influence
  • Desire for achievement and recognition
  • Desire for affirmation and encouragement
  • Desire for power and authority
  • Desire for success and significance
  • Desire for networking and companionship
  • Desire for knowledge and wisdom.

That is why, even when Jesus was already grieving about his coming passion and death, what was in the mind of the mother of the sons of Zebedee? “Make my children the greatest in your kingdom”.

My dear friends Jesus reminds us that greatness in the kingdom of God is different from the greatness in the earthly kingdom. Three differences:

  1. Greatness in the kingdom of God is about others. Christ said, “I came to serve and not to be served.” Greatness in the Earthly kingdom is about me: “I am number one.” The wang wang in our streets reminds us that it is “all about me”.
  2. Greatness in the kingdom of God is about service. Using our time, talent, and treasure for others to have better lives. Greatness in the earthly kingdom is about using others to make “my life better”.
  3. Greatness in the kingdom of God brings us to eternal life.  “Whatever you do to the least of your brethren you do unto me.” Greatness in the earthly kingdom is only for this world. We came into this world with nothing and we are leaving this world with nothing. Whatever we achieve, we will all leave behind.

In closing let me share with you a quote:

The greatness of a person is not the number of servants he has, but the number of people he serves.
