Death

Once I visited a friend, who recovered after being comatose for three days. So I asked him if he saw the usual light at the end of the tunnel? If he saw this beautiful garden? If he felt so much peace? He said, on the contrary, he was in a very scary place and the reason why he was brought back to life was he heard the prayers of his wife.

In the Gospel, the Jews told Jesus, “Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, ‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death?’”

Yes, he who came from heaven and went to earth assures us that there is life eternal and to be able to not taste death, to keep the words of Christ.

Three teachings of Christ about eternal life:

  1. The Afterlife is real. First, Jesus reminds us that heaven is real; he said, “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.” He, too, reminds us that hell is real. One of his teachings is in the story of the rich man and Lazarus.
  2. Eternal life starts now. It is how we have been living our life. Especially since God’s time is different from our time. Hence, the teaching of Christ not to be like the foolish virgins who were not prepared.
  3. Whatever you do to the least of your brethren, you do unto me. Jesus teaches that on the last day, the sheep will be separated from the goat. The sheep are the blessed and the goats are the accursed. It all boils down to being a blessing to others.

As we go through life, may we be reminded that we are only passing by. As we go through life, may we be reminded that rich or simple, we came into this world with nothing and we are leaving this world with nothing. As we go through life, may we be reminded it is all about the kindness we have shown other people.
